About APEAL:

APEAL, the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging, is a federation of four producers of steel for packaging (ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel Packaging, ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein, U.S. Steel Košice). In total these four companies employ over 200,000 workers in Europe. Founded in 1986, APEAL represents today about 95% of the total European production of steel for packaging.

About APEAL’s data:

APEAL’s Life Cycle Assessment for tinplate, conducted in 2014, creates a comprehensive set of real industry data for Steel for Packaging covering the resources, energy and emissions used from the steel production stage to its end‐of‐life stage, including recycling.

The four major tinplate manufacturers, ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel, ThyssenKrupp Rasselstein and U. S. Steel Kosice participated in the study, delivering data from eleven operating sites resulting in high industry coverage (over 95% of European tinplate production) and high quality data.

The data was based on 2012-13 production values. The study was conducted according to the international standards for life cycle assessment ISO 14040/44 and the worldsteel LCA methodology.
